As many of you know, the India Association of Rhode Island (IARI) has a new executive committee. While the email list has been silent due to technical issues, the committee has not been idle; we have been meeting and organizing different activities for our community. Some details of this years agenda follow.
First, a brief reminder about the mission and purpose of IARI.
The following appeal comes to you from two of our members, Nancy Brant & GK Bansal. As many of you are aware, bone marrow matching is difficult without donors from the same ethnic community. For a Caucasian, the chances of getting a hit from the nationwide registry are 1 in 15 whereas an Indian American has a 1 in 20,000 chance of finding a match. At our last Diwali we held a donor drive to help Savita, in nearby Massachusetts, and we signed up many new donors without any cost to the donors.
