IARI Organizational Changes

Owing to various other personal and professional commitments, the executive committee that served during the last calendar year – Dr. Puneet Sud, President, Dr. Rajiv Nehra, Vice President, Dr. Shalini Mansharamani, Treasurer, and Mr. Uttam Narsu, Secretary – resigned effective December 31, 2008.  While we would have liked the executive committee to continue, we understand their time constraints and do appreciate that they devoted one year of their valuable personal time for running this voluntary association for the benefit of the community.  So a big thanks to each of these executive committee members!

The next elections for the executive committee members are scheduled during the Diwali function, which will take place in October or November of this year, since the executive committee’s term in office is for two years.  The executive committee elected during Diwali will assume office on January 1, 2010.

To fill the gap between now and January 1, 2010 and thereby ensure continuity in the management of the association, a quorum of the IARI Trustees has agreed to appoint an interim executive committee.  These interim executive committee members are the same who have served in the past as executive committee members.  Additionally, two upstanding members of our community have agreed to join the executive committee as members at large.

The interim executive committee members are as follows:

      Sharad Bhatia, President

      Dr. Ravi Chander, Vice President

      Uttam Narsu, Secretary

      Dr. Shalini Mansharamani, Treasurer

Rita Gandhi, formerly executive committee member, now Member at Large

      Sanjiv Dhar, Member at Large

      Sanjay Pande, Member at Large

A number of cultural and civic activities are being planned for the calendar year, and we will keep you posted on those developments.  As always, we count on your enthusiasm and support to make IARI a vibrant and worthy community organization that can fully serve the needs of our community.  We are always looking for volunteers, so if you or your children would like to volunteer for any activity, we would be delighted to hear from you.

It is also our sad duty in this communication to offer our community’s collective condolences and prayers to Dr. Amrut Patel and Champa Patel, long time residents of Rhode Island and amongst the most community service oriented members of our community, on the sad and untimely demise of their son, Vivek, who left for his heavenly abode on February 22, 2009.  Vivek was a compassionate, bright young man of great promise, who brought joy and laughter to whomever he met.  His passing is a terrible loss not only to his family but also to the entire community. May his soul rest in peace.
